WELLNESS THROUGH TAICHI

Wellness is having the energy to participate and enjoy every aspect of one's life.

Tai Chi is a martial art form of Qigong practiced slowly and evenly for its wonderful wellness benefits. Qigong is the study and practice of nurturing your vital energy. Tai Chi and Qigong improve calmness of mind, relaxation, posture, stability, balance and coordination. They strengthen your body, calm your mind and emotions, and lift your spirit.

The goal of Wellness Through Tai Chi is to integrate western knowledge of fitness, health and wellness with the essential principles and practice of meditation, Qigong, Tai Chi, and Push Hands (a two-person exercise for applying the principles in practice). We provide wellness through Tai Chi for optimal functioning, peak performance, and the prevention of illness and injury.

We offer in-depth and individualized instruction within small groups during weekdays, evenings and weekends in retreat-like settings. Our Tai Chi classes begin with standing meditation and Qigong for about 30 minutes. Students are introduced to various sets of Qigong, including Daoist, Health Maintenance, Four Seasons Health, as well as Tai Chi Qigong. Next, we teach one or two postures of the Wu Ji Jing Gong Tai Chi Long Form, utilizing demonstrations of the postures, breaking down upper and lower body movements, modeling the instructor’s movements, and having students practice the postures with the group and on their own. We also discuss the martial art applications of the postures, essential principles of Tai Chi, associated benefits, and applications of the principles in activities of daily living. We then have a period for questions and answers and more individualized instruction, while refreshments are being served.

Private instruction is also available and recommended to help you to attain higher levels of development. It enables you to go beyond learning the sequence to integrate the essential principles and details into your form.

Instructional DVDs, videos and manuals of the Tai Chi forms and Qigongs are available.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Introduction to Tai Chi/Qigong - These classes are designed for those who have not taken Tai Chi or Qigong. They introduce the principles of calmness, relaxation, posture, balance and coordination, health and recovery from illness and injury, and stress management. They also provide instruction in either Qigong for health and wellness, Tai Chi Qigong and/or the first set of postures of the Wu Ji Tai Chi Form.

Qigong/Tai Chi Form - These classes are recommended for students who can perform the first ten postures of the Long Form on their own before taking this class. These classes provide a review in detail of the Qigongs and instruction in the three sections of the Wu Ji Tai Chi Form. Students will work more on flexibility, balance and coordination in postures with kicks, turns on one leg, lower squatting movements, more directional changes, and whole body movement.

Push Hands - In this session, you develop the skill of Push Hands, the martial art aspect of Tai Chi. You will learn how to apply the Tai Chi principles in Push Hands to get a deeper understanding of Tai Chi and improve your practice. In this class you will also learn to improve your root, to use your waist, hips and the connections throughout out your body to generate effortless power, and to relax and become more sensitive and aware.

CLASS AND PAYMENT POLICIES

  • Feel free to attend one of our introductory classes without any obligation to see if Tai Chi and Qigong are right for you. Please call us to make arrangements.

  • Prices are listed on our schedule page with the individual classes and workshops. Private lessons are $50/hr., 10 lessons for $425, and are held at the Tai Chi Studio. There are no refunds, unless there are special circumstances, such as a medical leave. We will suspend your tuition until you return.

  • For students who wish to take two classes per week at the Tai Chi Studio, the cost of the second class will be half price. Couples and students receive a 20 % discount. Students will receive a $50 discount, applied to their next session, for referrals that register for a session. Classes at other locations are not subject to these discounts. • Day, evening and weekend classes are offered at convenient times. Therefore, missed classes can be made up by attending other classes at any time during that session.
