Energy
Energy, which is referred to as Qi, is the bio-electromagnetic energy that circulates through the body's tissues, organs, brain, and nervous system, enabling optimal functioning, health, and wellness of the mind and spirit, as well as the body. This energy is the source of life. It fuels the body, like gasoline to an engine. It is also the energy that fuels the universe and strives to maintain balance and harmony with nature. All of nature pulsates with Qi. You become aware of this energy, feel it and use it. You understand Qi by its effects on your health and level of vitality.
Gong means work, exercise, or skill. It is the accumulation of knowledge, skills and abilities that must be acquired through one's own experience, perseverance and years of diligent practice and study.
"Qigong" is the study and practice of nurturing your life energy; how to accumulate, balance and coordinate the flow of qi energy to maintain health and wellness, to improve one's health and prevent illness. Its primary purpose is to promote healing and recovery from illness and injury by cultivating this energy. Furthermore, when we practice Qigong on a daily basis, we become calm, relaxed, and more understanding and appreciative of the body's Qi energy. The simple and gentle movements of Qigong, besides being an excellent holistic practice by themselves, also build the foundation for good Tai Chi.
