We offer in-depth and personal instruction within small groups, during weekdays, evenings and weekends, in retreat-like settings.  We teach Tai Chi, Qigong, meditation and Push Hands (two person exercise for developing the martial art of Tai Chi).

Our classes begin with Qigong for about 30 minutes.   Qigong enables you to immediately experience the essential principles of Tai Chi.   It is also an excellent way to warm up before practicing Tai Chi.   Next, we teach one or two of the Tai Chi postures through demonstration, breaking down upper and lower body movements, modeling the instructor's movements, and having students practice the postures with the group and on their own. We also discuss the essential principles of Tai Chi, associated benefits, the applications of principles in activities of daily living, the martial art applications of the postures, and Push Hands.   Finally, there is a period for questions and answers and more individualized instruction, while refreshments are being served.

New students receive a binder for handouts, taking notes and writing down questions and answers.   DVDs, videos and manuals of this Tai Chi form and Qigongs are available.

If you are uncertain about studying Tai Chi and Qigong and would like to participate in one of our Beginner 1 classes without any obligation, please call us to make arrangements.

Beginners 1 - This class is designed for those who have not taken Tai Chi or Qigong and will introduce the essential principles of calmness/relaxation, posture, balance and coordination. The first half of the class will begin with Tai Chi Qigong (stationary movements) and continue with instruction of the first quarter of the Tai Chi form's first section (10 movements).

Beginners 2 - This class is recommended for those who have completed Beginner 1 in order to effectively participate.  Students will be expected to know the essential principles and learn how to assimilate them into their practice. In the first half of this class students will refine their Qigong practice and then receive instruction in the first section (44 movements).

Beginners 1 & 2 - This is a combination class for beginners as well as students from our other classes. The first half hour of the class will be devoted to the Qigongs, the next half hour will be instruction of the beginning of the Tai Chi form and in the last half hour we will perform the first or second half of the first section and review two or more postures based on class feedback and requests.  Beginners will be introduced to more details and principles of Tai Chi movement, while existing students will be able to review and learn more about the beginning postures.  This class may also serve as an another opportunity for existing students to make-up classes that they miss during the week.

Intermediate - This class is recommended for students who have completed Beginners 1 and Beginners 2 and can preform the first section on their own before taking this class, which focuses on instruction in the second section of the form.  Students will be working more on flexibility, balance and coordination in postures with kicks, turns on one leg, lower squatting movements and more directional changes.

Push Hands - In this class you will learn Push Hands, the martial art aspect of Tai Chi Chuan. Push Hands is a method for knowing yourself and the practice of knowing others. You will learn how to apply the Tai Chi principles in Push Hands to get a deeper understanding of Tai Chi and improve your practice.  In this class you will also learn to improve your rooting, how to use your waist, hips and the connections throughout out your body to generate effortless power, and to relax and become more sensitive and aware.

Instructional DVDs, videos and manuals of the Tai Chi forms and Qigongs are available. For further information and directions, either call us at 732-636-2737, e-mail us at richlund@verizon.net , or you can visit our website at www.wellnessthroughtaichi.com .
